What is Walker Bait?

Thanks to pop culture, in recent years the term “walker bait” has come to reference any member of your zombie survival group that is deemed “disposable.” This is the person who frequently ends up in harm’s way, voluntarily or otherwise, so that other members of the group may survive. The “walker bait” can perform many functions, or few. Either way, they serve a purpose. They are considered “disposable” because the rest of the group can and will go on without them. The term “walker bait” is borderline derogatory.

Or, is it?

Let’s look at it from another perspective, shall we? If you equate “walker bait” to “support team”, the name takes on any entirely new meaning. All of the greatest literary and pop culture heroes have a means of support. They come in many forms: sidekick, comic relief, plucky best friend, partner, devoted servant, teacher, some walk on two legs, others on four. Even the classic antihero has someone or something that provides support. In some cases, their support is with them all the way, while in other cases their support exists for only a brief period of time, responsible for one task. They slip in and out of the story barely noticed, but their presence had an effect. Walker Bait.

Batman had Alfred. Gandalf had the Hobbits. Luke had droids and Ewoks. Rick had Glenn and Carl. Point being, you may not appreciate all that they have to offer in a given moment. But those people, your support team, your Walker Bait, are willing to do what needs to be done. However bold or reluctantly so, Walker Bait bravely supports you and the rest of the team with little expectation of any personal gain.

Walker Bait. Heroes in their own right.

Walker Bait Productions is here to offer support to those that need it. We may not be living in a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi or fantasy world, but we each face our own challenges day in and day out. And who couldn’t use a little extra pat on the back or nudge in the right direction? Perhaps you need a sounding board for an idea that you have. Maybe you have an event that you would like to share on our calendar. Are you talented in any area of the arts? Walker Bait would be happy to help showcase your play, music, art, etc. Maybe you have an idea and need help with the planning and/or execution. Walker Bait has experience with event planning, fundraising, live productions, both large and small. In fact, from time to time, Walker Bait Productions will produce publications, small plays, adaptations, and staged readings to educate, entertain, and raise money for our charity of choice: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Consider this a think tank. Everyone can contribute ideas and everyone can help support one another in finding and doing the things that enrich their lives.

Maya Angelou once said, “Surviving is important. Thriving is elegant.”

Thrive: grow, develop well, prosper, succeed, flourish. We are all surviving this crazy life. But what are we doing to thrive? How do we help make things better for ourselves and for others who need support? How can we share a little encouragement, show a little compassion, appreciate what we have been given, and remind ourselves that we are all part of the same group? Walker Bait doesn’t have all of the answers, but Walker Bait is willing to try.

Walker Bait Productions. Learning to thrive while we survive.

Walker Bait Productions was created as a blog, but with the additional intent of producing small plays and staged readings, organizing and coordinating fundraisers, and promoting others who are using their talents and creativity doing what they love. And don’t be surprised if you find a little nerdy nonsense thrown in the mix.
